Wood look tiles make an impact at the Holiday Inn Auckland Airport
How do you make people feel at home at the busiest airport in the country? National design company Designworks had just that challenge with the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel, and they've nailed it, with a relaxed and homely vibe that belies that hard-working materials that underpin it.
Porcelain timber look tiles give the best of both world, a hard wearing surface that will look as good in 50 years as the day it was installed, yet lend a relaxed and warm feel to the space. Designworks chose an Italian wood look tile called Etic Rovere, for the classic look of warm timber flooring through the lobby and bar of the hotel. Unlike real timber, these porcelain tiles are impervious to water, hard wearing, won’t scratch and won’t fade or go yellow in the sun. They are easy to keep clean and don’t need special cleaning treatments. Of course, being porcelain, they also have an excellent fire rating, making them a practical option.
For the bar front, they chose a classic patterned tile called Goroka Grafito. Whether laying on the floors or walls, decorative tiles instantly add character to a space. Our Moroccan inspired tiles have the look of handmade cement tiles, without the hassle of natural materials. Porcelain is a great alternative to traditional Encaustic (cement) tiles as it doesn’t need sealing and is impervious to water, making them perfect for showers and wet areas. Porcelain is also easy to clean, often with just warm water making them a low-maintenance option.
