Are you looking for kitchen renovation ideas for your next project? Then you’ll love this story. We recently had the privilege of sitting down with Kiwi mum Amie Brodie, who, with help from her husband, created a beautiful coastal kitchen using Tile Space products.

This gorgeous kitchen, with its neutral tones, gold tapware and carefully selected tiles from our wall tile collection, presents so many design possibilities for anyone wanting to add a touch of coastal charm to their kitchen.

So, here's Amie's story on how they created their stunning kitchen.

Hi Amie, could you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a wife and mother of three children - Finn 13, Amira 8 and Ari 4. I am a graphic designer and content creator, and work from home.

I love all things creative, including interior design, so designing our kitchen was another creative outlet for me.

I also enjoy photography and love to hang out with friends and enjoy good coffee.

How long have you lived in your Mt Maunganui home?

We have lived in our home for just over three years. We were fortunate to buy our home just before Covid, before all the prices skyrocketed.

How long have you planned your kitchen renovation? Did you enjoy the process?

I had been pinning kitchen inspiration on Pinterest and saving ideas on Instagram as soon as we purchased our house.

The kitchen wasn’t the first room we renovated due to the expense, but I planned it out long before, collating ideas and creating it just how I wanted.

.With inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest, Amie set about transforming her kitchen into this cosy, coastal oasis together with hubby.

Hubby had some input, haha but let's face it, I have more of an eye for interiors. He is handy hands behind our kitchen renovation.

I loved the process. Choosing the colours, tapware, handles, tiles, appliances, everything! I enjoyed every minute of the process, and now it's one of my favourite spaces to look at and say, “we did that!”

What styles were you drawn to when planning your renovation?

I love the style of a coastal kitchen. Lots of light white mixed with pale hues and natural wood accents.

What made you choose the square gloss tile for your splashback?

I first saw it in the home of a lovely lady I follow on Instagram. She has a similar toned kitchen to ours, and I just love the texture the tiles create.

Hubby originally wanted a grey tile, but once he saw the square gloss tiles up, he knew I had made the right call.

You have such great style! Where do you get inspiration from?

I get a lot of inspiration off Instagram & Pinterest. Also, from magazines and books.

Take a peek at the Tile Space Pinterest page, and you’ll find a mix of the hottest tile looks and ideas you can save for your project inspiration board.

Can you please give us some tips on how to style the perfect ‘shelfie’? You have nailed it!

Oh gosh, thank you! My shelf is a collection of my favourite ceramics and kitchen items I’ve purchased. Open shelves are not just a great way to store items but also to show off your most loved pieces.

I think keeping your colour palette to two or three colours, so it blends well and doesn’t look overcrowded.

You can add texture with dried flowers, living plants and metals. I love gold and brass. They look amazing paired with white and wood.

Lastly, just use your eye to balance out your items, using varying heights to keep things interesting.

Which room would you say is the heart of your home?

I would say the kitchen/dining. It’s where most of the family spends time. And let's face it, they’re constantly grazing, and us mums are always making snacks.

What is your favourite meal to prepare in your kitchen?

Does coffee count? Haha.

My favourite meal, and one that everyone in our family enjoys, is chicken curry - Butter Chicken or Korma. Most mothers will know it’s hard finding healthy meals that their kids will enjoy, well, this is ours!

How did you find your experience shopping at Tile Space?

A wonderful friendly service. The staff were super helpful with choosing tiles and grout.

We did all the tiling ourselves, and they were able to point out everything we needed. We will definitely be back when it’s time to renovate our bathroom.
