In this edition of Tile Tales, we dive into the inspiration behind one of the most captivating showhomes in Pukekohe, designed by Alisha for Precision Homes. Alisha sat down with us to share her approach to the design of 38 Te Rata Boulevard, a home that truly captures the imagination and creates a lasting impression on visitors.

How would you describe your design approach?

Our design style for this showhome was about creating something a bit different, with moments of surprise and delight that would linger in the minds of visitors. It was about creating an environment that didn’t just look good, but felt good too—light, warm, and welcoming. We wanted it to exude a sense of peace and comfort, but also have those "wow" moments that would catch people off guard in the best way.

Going down that path, we ended up with a design that feels very Mediterranean, with soft corners, natural textures, and light tones. There’s an openness that makes the home feel expansive, yet warm. We also mixed in a touch of Moroccan flair and a sprinkle of Scandinavian simplicity. The result? A home that feels like a getaway—full of light, warmth, and tranquillity.

What was the inspiration behind the design?

Our inspiration came from a variety of sources. We drew ideas from magazines, online images, and even the beautiful homes being built across New Zealand. But we were also deeply inspired by the materials and products from our suppliers, like Tile Space. We were keen to showcase some of the new products in our design, not only to add something fresh to the home but also to demonstrate to our clients what’s possible for their own spaces.

What led you to choose Tile Space tiles for this project?

Tile Space has been a favourite of ours for a long time. The quality of the tiles, the wide variety of designs, and the excellent service we receive from the team always keep us coming back. We love that there’s always something new and exciting to explore, and our tilers appreciate the consistency of quality, which allows them to deliver a flawless finish.

Were there specific features or qualities of the tiles that influenced your decision?

Absolutely! The Kasbah tile was a standout for us because it tied in that Moroccan-Mediterranean vibe we were going for. Its natural finish and subtle pattern provided a feature that wasn’t too overpowering, allowing the other design elements like the vanity and basins to shine. The all-white colour was the perfect backdrop to highlight the soft peachy-orange and timber tones we used throughout the space.

For the floor tiles, we wanted something warm with a soft pinky-peach hue—nothing too grey, yellow, or brown—so they brought a sense of cohesion to the room. The Artisan tiles pulled the look together beautifully, creating a balanced and harmonious flow in the space.

In the master ensuite, what role did the tiles play in the overall design?

The master ensuite was where we really wanted to create a moment of “wow.” We selected tiles that not only pulled in the colours from the master bedroom but also tied in with the overall design of the house. We had used these tiles in a previous showhome and they worked so perfectly that we had to use them again. They added just the right amount of interest while maintaining the peaceful, cohesive vibe we were after.

Did the tiles help achieve the overall aesthetic you were aiming for?

Without a doubt. The tiles played a critical role in achieving the aesthetic. We spent a lot of time carefully selecting the perfect tiles from Tile Space to ensure they aligned with our vision. The colour tones, finishes, and patterns all contributed to creating a home that was cohesive, balanced, and visually stunning. A special shout-out to Sam from Tile Space, who helped us pull together the perfect options towards the end of the project. The bathrooms, in particular, really brought the design to life and made our vision shine.

In every room, the tiles were integral to creating the Mediterranean-inspired, warm, and peaceful atmosphere we envisioned for 38 Te Rata Boulevard. It’s a space where every detail counts, and the tiles were no exception.
