Mosaic tiles not only look great, but they are also an excellent choice for bathroom floors. Because of the greater number of grout lines, they have a higher grip than standard or large format tiles. Check out our guide to bathroom mosaic tile ideas for more ideas.

2. Cool Grey Stone-Look Tiles

Stone-look tiles in cool grey shades can give your bathroom floors a clean, sleek, and streamlined look, plus provide a neutral base for more bold coloured and patterned wall tile designs.

Here are a few favourite grey stone-look ideas from our Magic and Aggregate tile collections from our newly launched Gecko range. These versatile tiles have a matte finish when dry but activate a special technology for increased slip resistance when wet. Ideal for bathroom floors as well as kitchen and outdoor areas

5. Try Pretty Patterned Decorative Tiles

Bathroom floor tiles don’t have to be boring. Inject personality and style into your space with tiles featuring eye-catching decorative patterns.

Our Bali range is a perfect example of decorative patterns for bathroom floors; inspired by encaustic cement tiles, these tiles are ideal for the classic villa and the fresh, modern home.

The Bali collection is part of our Gecko or InOut range, which blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. You can use these tiles in your bathroom, kitchen, or outdoors, creating a seamless flow in your home.

Styling Bathroom Floor Tiles: 3 Design Elements To Consider

Choosing tiles for your bathroom floors requires a bit of thought and careful consideration. From waterproofing to selecting tiles that best fit your budget, colour palette and available size, there are a few key points to keep in mind.

.

1. Tile Finish

Improve your tile game by selecting the right finish: glossy, semi-glossy, or matte. Avoid using glossy, polished tiles on the floor to avoid slipping incidents. Want to install a secure and elegant enclosure shower? Choose matt floor tiles to have peace of mind without sacrificing style. .

.

2. Tile Design And Layout

Choose a simple style with no unnecessary features or borders, and stick to one or two hues for a small bathroom. It will make the room appear larger.

However, if you have a large bathroom, feel free to experiment with patterns and textures! Just make sure to have a consistent colour palette/theme throughout the bathroom.

3. Grout

Use tile grout to extend the life of your tiles. It not only smoothes the surface but also provides a waterproof seal, preventing water damage. Grout is just as important as tiles, and there are three types available: epoxy, sanded, and unsanded grout.

Because of its unique bonding properties, waterproof epoxy grout is ideal for bathrooms and showers. This grout is resistant to fractures, stains, and shrinking, making it ideal for moist areas.

Plus, grout doesn’t have to be boring anymore! One of the  latest tile trends to emerge is feature grout, where colourful grout is used to add flair and personality to your space. We love this trend so much that we wrote an entire article about it with different inspiration ideas and tips -  check it out here

On top of those three key points, we also asked our in-house designer and tile expert, Moet Walker, to share her insights into three of the biggest questions people have regarding bathroom floor tiles.

Bathroom Floor Tile Q&A With Tile Space Designer

Q: Which type of tile is best for the bathroom floor?

A: Porcelain tiles are the best for bathroom floors as they are durable and non-porous. Because of these qualities, porcelain tiles won’t hold in any stains or soap residue.

Visit our  beginner’s guide on bathroom tiles for more details.

.

Q: Should bathroom floor tiles be darker than the walls?

A: Bathroom floors don't have to be darker than walls, but you can use a darker tile on the floor to ground the space or to create contrast against white or lighter-tiled walls. See this example of a dark floored bathroom using our  Aggregate Dark Grey InOut 60 tile

.

Q: What size floor tile looks best in a small bathroom?

A: You can’t go wrong with a 600x600mm floor tile like this  Timeless Beige Matt 60 tile. This tile size is the standard most common for bathroom tiles.

.

Q: What tile doesn't show dirt on the bathroom floor?

Dark-coloured and patterned tiles are the best for hiding dirt. Mid tones, anything too light or too dark, will show more marks. Also, something with more movement in the pattern. If the tile has no movement, you are more likely to see dirt on them.

.

Q: What is the most popular flooring for bathrooms now?

Our Gecko range: these tiles have a special technology that, when they are dry, they have a sleek matt finish but when wet, the tiles become less slippery. People are definitely moving away from polished tiles on floors, and we are predominantly seeing matt finish tiles.

.

Q: Which is better, glossy or matte floor tiles for a bathroom?

Matt tiles are safer and more practical in a bathroom, but it is a personal preference.

.

Q: Which is better, tile or vinyl flooring/linoleum flooring?

Tiles are far more durable than vinyl/lino, especially in a bathroom where there is a lot of water and steam, you will find that tiles are less prone to damage compared to vinyl/lino both in marks and UV damage.
